There are are a number of excellent golden sandy safe beaches in the area, ideally suited to families and sun worshippers.

There are also pebble beaches which are great for snorkelling.

San Juan

Long clean golden sands our nearest beach only 10 miles away. The beach slopes gently into the sea. A good choice of bars and restaurants to choose from. On a balmy summer evenings wander along the newly built promenade to the Hotel Calypso for a drink. 

Carolinas 

Beaches are golden sands, no hotels, very few buildings. Good for children with life guard patrols, toilets and two bars where snacks are served close to the beach.                                                     

Mojacar

This beach is situated at Mojacar Playa, the old Moorish town of Mojacar is on a hillside behind. The Playa offers many bars, cafes & restaurants plus play areas for children.

There are approx 15km of beach and it rarely gets too busy.
 

Vera Playa

The beaches here are flanked by developments, restaurants and bars. It is just under 7km long and very wide, therefore even in the height of summer the beach is never overcrowded. The shore is quite shallow and good for children. There are showers and toilets, and lifeguards patrol this beach. Beware not to stumble into the naturist part, unless of course this is what you want to do.
 

Villaricos

The beaches here are quite stony and rocky. This fishing village has recently been modernised and the best thing about it are the has two little marinas. There are a number of little restaurants and bars. Scuba Diving can be arranged at the port.
 

Garrucha

The port of Garrucha is the nearest fishing port where boat trips are available and sea food restaurants are in abundance. There are some play areas for children

Clay Pigeon Shooting

Clay Busters is open from 10am till dusk on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at the moment. Fridays are for lessons during the morning and in the afternoon, a supervised informal shoot is held.

If you have never shot before, a full lesson and instruction with Eric is only 32 euros. This includes the hire of the gun, cartridges, clays, insurance and ear defenders.

If you don't need instruction,

Gun Hire, 25 cartridges and 25 clays are only 15 euros

If you don't need instruction and have your own gun, 25 cartridges and 25 clays are only 10 euros.
 

Archery

There are a few Archery clubs Almeria, the nearest club is nearby in Zurgena. This club is located at the clay shooting club - Claybusters.

Archery costs 20€ per person per hour which includes all equipment and tuition.

 
There are 3 instructors to accommodate for larger groups, up to six people.

They have 7 bows for men, ladies and children can be accommodated.

Walking

There are a number of local walks in the area ranging from 2k to 20K both on road and rambler taking in some of the hills along the valley. Your hosts can provide you with details of the local walks.

Caving

Cuevas de Sorbas.

The caves at Sorbas are of Gypsum Karst and there are various tours on offer, ranging from a 1 hour easy tour to a 4 hour difficult tour for the fit and agile.

It is suggested that you visit the exhibition centre first to understand the formations and the importance of the Karst.

One and a half hour tour costs - Adults 10.50 euros and Children 6.50 euros.

Three and a half hour tour costs - Adults 18.00 euros and Children 12.00 euros.

Four and a half hour tour costs - Adults 36.00 euros.

It is recommended that you wear comfortable clothing and footwear and book in advance for the above routes.

Markets and Car Boot Sales

Within the province of Almeria there are numerous markets and car boot sales to buy your presents, holiday Knik Knaks and essentials. The markets are great places to purchase your fresh fruit and vegetables.
